Try this right now: open ChatGPT or Perplexity and type “who’s a good business coach for [your niche].” See what comes back. If your name isn’t in that answer, you’re invisible in a channel your clients are increasingly using instead of Google.

This is GEO — Generative Engine Optimization — and it’s the newest layer of visibility every coach and consultant needs to understand before their competitors do.

What Is GEO, and How Is It Different from SEO?

SEO gets you ranked on a results page that a person then has to click through and evaluate. GEO is about being the answer an AI tool gives directly — often without the person ever visiting a website at all.

Both rely on the same foundation: clear, credible, well-structured content. But GEO leans even harder on a few specific things — direct answers, plain language, and content that clearly signals who you are and who you help, because AI tools are trying to summarize and recommend, not just index.

Why This Matters for Coaches Specifically

Coaching is a trust-based, personal-fit decision — exactly the kind of question people increasingly outsource to AI for a first pass. Someone might ask an AI tool to shortlist a few coaches before they ever open Google, then only visit the 2–3 sites the AI mentioned by name.

If you’re not part of that shortlist, you don’t just lose a click — you lose the chance to even be considered.

The GEO Checklist

Run your website and content through this list:

  1. Does your homepage state, in plain language, who you help and what you do? AI tools extract and summarize. If your homepage leads with a clever tagline instead of a clear statement (“I help [audience] achieve [outcome]”), you’re harder to summarize accurately — or at all.

  2. Do your pages answer real questions directly, near the top? Structure content so the first 2–3 sentences of any section directly answer the implied question, before you elaborate. AI tools tend to lift the most direct, self-contained answer they can find.

  3. Do you have an FAQ section with FAQPage schema? Question-and-answer formatted content is exactly the shape AI tools are built to extract and cite. A page with no FAQ section is easy to skip.

  4. Is your expertise clearly stated, not implied? Say it plainly: your name, your role, who you’ve helped, and any credentials — in text, not just in a headshot caption. AI tools weight clear expertise and entity signals when deciding who to recommend.

  5. Is your content consistent across your site? If your homepage says you help “women coaches” and your About page says “female entrepreneurs” and your services page says “female founders,” that inconsistency makes you harder for an AI system to confidently summarize as one clear entity.

  6. Do you have genuinely useful, specific content — not just a sales page? Generic, promotional copy gets skipped in favor of pages that clearly explain, teach, or answer something specific. This is exactly why blog content matters for GEO, not just SEO.

Quick Fixes You Can Make This Week

  • Rewrite your homepage’s first sentence to plainly state who you help and what changes for them.
  • Add a short “About Krina” — or “About [you]” — paragraph to your top 2–3 pages that states your name, role, and who you serve, verbatim, more than once across the site.
  • Turn your most common client questions into an FAQ section with FAQPage schema on your homepage or services page.
  • Make sure every blog post opens with a direct 2–3 sentence answer before going deeper.

FAQ

No — they run in parallel. Strong SEO fundamentals (clear structure, good content, real answers) support both. GEO just adds a few specific things AI tools look for on top of that foundation.

Ask ChatGPT or Perplexity the exact question your ideal client would ask, using your niche and their problem. If you don't appear, that's your starting point.

Most coaches can fix this by restructuring existing pages — clearer opening statements, added FAQ sections, consistent language — before writing anything new.

Yes — GEO is still early enough that fixing it now puts you ahead of most competitors in your niche who haven't touched it yet.
