The girl who figured out
marketing the hard way.
I’ve worked across websites, SEO, funnels, social, email, and everything in between. I don’t just hand you a strategy doc and disappear.
Six months ago you set goals for the year. Be honest — when did you last look at them? For most coaches, the answer is “not since January.” That isn’t a discipline problem. It’s that nobody schedules the one hour that actually changes the back half of the year.
A mid-year business review is that hour. It isn’t about guilt or a colour-coded spreadsheet. It’s a short, honest look at what’s working, what’s quietly draining you, and what to do differently before you sprint into the second half. Here are the seven questions worth sitting with.
Start with the number, because the number doesn’t flatter you. Compare where you are now to the goal you set in January. If you’re ahead, what drove it? If you’re behind, resist the urge to blame motivation — look at the system underneath. Most revenue gaps come from a leaky path between interested and paid, not from a lack of effort.
For one week, notice the repeat tasks: sending invoices, chasing replies, manually onboarding, answering the same questions. Add up the hours. For most coaches it lands somewhere between five and fifteen a week. That is time you are paying for with your energy — and almost all of it can be handed to a system.
Trace the journey a stranger takes from finding you to paying you. Where does it get clunky? A confusing next step, a checkout with too many fields, a follow-up that never happens. Each friction point is a quiet exit. You usually don’t have a traffic problem; you have a few small leaks that add up.
Look at every offer, promotion, or launch from the first half. Separate the effort from the outcome. The thing that felt exciting isn’t always the thing that paid. Double down on what worked and give yourself permission to retire what didn’t, even if you liked it.
This is the systems question. If the honest answer is “no,” your business is running entirely on you. That is the single biggest cap on both your income and your peace. A funnel and a nurture sequence are what let the business keep moving while you live your life.
Every business collects tolerations — the clunky tool, the client who drains you, the process you keep meaning to fix. List them. You don’t have to solve them all today, but naming them is how they stop running quietly in the background and stealing your attention.
Now look forward. Q4 is the biggest revenue window of the year for most coaches, and it is won in the summer, not in October. Decide what you’re building toward, then work backward. A strong finish is planned, not hoped for.
The bottom line
A mid-year review takes about an hour and changes the next six months. You’re probably not behind — you’re likely just carrying a business that runs on you instead of on systems. The fix isn’t to work harder in the back half. It’s to build the support that lets the work compound.
Run these seven questions this week. The boring hour in June is what makes December look good.
